Swiss Open Pension Pilot Connects Profond Data To ZKB’s eBanking

A pilot linking pension fund data to online banking has gone live in Switzerland, built by Zürcher Kantonalbank and pension fund Profond, with digitalisation consultancy Acrea.

Swiss Fintech Innovations (SFTI), which leads the Open Pension initiative, calls this pilot its first concrete implementation.

The pilot lets shared ZKB and Profond customers view selected second-pillar pension data directly in their online banking.

Occupational pension is one of the most important assets for many people, yet that information typically sits outside the digital banking tools customers use most often to track their finances.

The pilot gives customers a better overview of their financial situation and strengthens transparency in pension provision, laying the groundwork for new, customer-focused services such as financial planning, retirement advice and a fuller view of personal wealth.

SFTI frames it as concrete progress for open finance in Switzerland, demonstrating that standardised interfaces can translate directly into real benefits for customers.

The pilot runs on Common API, a standard that grew out of SFTI’s earlier OpenPK project.

SFTI describes the standard as designed to make pension data accessible securely, in a structured, interoperable way, and available for other banks, insurers, pension funds and technology providers to adopt.

Standardised APIs like this one lower the complexity of connecting additional institutions and lay the groundwork for a nationwide, scalable rollout of Open Pension.

SFTI frames the launch as an early test rather than a finished rollout, intended to show how customers respond to viewing pension data this way and what value it delivers in practice.

The industry body continues shaping the discussion, alongside other industry bodies and the federal government, around a nationwide rollout of Open Pension.
